Winter, in the Alta Valtellina, means above all white, snow, and cold. It is ski season, in all its forms: from downhill to cross country, to snowboard, plus back-country skiing, freeride, and telemark. Winter brings the desire to walk in the woods, snowshoeing, dog sledding, or in the saddle of a horse. Winter is ice skating, indoors at the rink, or outdoors in the open air. Winter is a moment of pure fun, on the curling rink, in the gym for a game of volleyball, soccer, or basketball, or at the fitness center. Winter is the desire to test yourself by ice climbing a frozen waterfall.
And in winter, the thermal baths are ideal to warm up after a day outdoors: the Turkish bath, sauna, bio sauna, Jacuzzi, and steam bath are only a few of the options. And a dip in a hot tub, outdoors, and surrounded by snow, is a unique experience.
Taking a walk through the historical center of Bormio, perhaps in the silence of beautiful falling snow, or visiting Bormio’s museums and exhibitions, are simple way to get in contact with Bormio’s local culture and traditions.
And, after a day on the snow or at the spa, what could be better than a dinner in a mountain rifugio (hut) or in a local restaurant, perhaps in front of the fireplace? Our local specialties, including Pizzoccheri, Sciatt, Polenta, cheeses, and Bresaola, perhaps accompanied by a glass of Valtellina wine, Braulio, or Taneda, lend themselves very well to the rigors of the cold winter season.
